Desert Storm Lake Havasu 2026 | Boat Week, Poker Run & Events Guide

Desert Storm Lake Havasu: Desert Storm is Lake Havasu City’s annual spring boat week — typically held in late April — featuring the world-famous Desert Storm Poker Run, street party on McCulloch Boulevard, boat show, and hundreds of performance and offshore boats on the water. The Boat Brokers is a local fixture at Desert Storm, with inventory on display and consignment units priced for event buyers. Come see us at the lot or on the water.

What Is Desert Storm?

Desert Storm started as a grass-roots poker run and grew into one of the largest performance boat events in the western United States. Every April, Lake Havasu transforms: the population doubles, the waterfront fills with offshore boats worth more than most houses, and McCulloch Boulevard becomes a five-day street party. If you love boats, this is your event.

The centerpiece is the Desert Storm Poker Run — a multi-stop run up and down Lake Havasu where boats collect cards at each checkpoint. Prizes go to the best poker hands at day’s end, but the real prize is the run itself. Performance cats, offshore V-bottoms, and luxury cruisers line up together, and the lake sounds nothing like it does in October. The Boat Brokers has been part of this community through every iteration of this event.

The Boat Brokers at Desert Storm

Desert Storm is peak buying season at The Boat Brokers. Serious boat buyers come to Havasu for the event and leave with a new unit — often one they saw in our inventory before they arrived. We typically have consignment units priced for event-week buyers, and Garrett is on the lot and on the water all week. If you’re coming to Desert Storm and you’re in the market for a boat, come by the lot first.

We also take Desert Storm as a consignment deadline. If you want your boat in front of 10,000+ performance boat enthusiasts, it needs to be consigned with us before event week starts. Call or stop by any time before April to get your boat listed.

Best Boats for the Desert Storm Poker Run

Not all boats are built for the Desert Storm course. The run covers open lake and can include some chop from afternoon wind. The most common platforms at Desert Storm:

  • Performance catamarans: The signature Desert Storm boat — twin-step hulls, 500+ HP, and speeds that get everyone’s attention on the water
  • Offshore V-bottoms: Cigarette, Fountain, Baja, Formula — tunnel hulls and mono-bottoms that run fast and look the part
  • Lake-style cruisers and deck boats: Cobalt, Chaparral, Regal — not the fastest but fully capable of the run with 8–12 people aboard
  • Performance pontoons: Bennington and Barletta Performance Series — triple outboards, 300+ HP, increasingly common at the run
  • Wakeboats: MasterCraft, Nautique, Malibu — not the target platform for a poker run, but they show up and have fun

Getting Your Boat Ready for Desert Storm

If you’re running Desert Storm, your boat needs to be dialed in before the event. Don’t wait until event week to address known issues. Pre-event checklist:

  • Full engine service — impeller, spark plugs, belts, filters, and zincs if applicable
  • Fuel system — clean the tank, replace lines if cracked, verify fuel-water separator
  • Electrical — check bilge pumps, nav lights, kill switch lanyard
  • Safety equipment — life jackets, flares, fire extinguisher (all must be current/in-date)
  • Registration and numbers — current AZ registration, hull ID visible

Desert Storm FAQ

When is Desert Storm 2026?

Desert Storm typically runs the last week of April. Exact 2026 dates are confirmed at desertstormpowerboat.com. Hotels and lakefront rentals book 6–12 months in advance — plan early if you’re coming from out of town.

How do I register for the Desert Storm Poker Run?

Registration is handled through the official Desert Storm event organizers at desertstormpowerboat.com. Registration opens months before the event and sells out. Spectators don’t need to register — the street party and waterfront events are generally open to the public.

Is Desert Storm family-friendly?

Partially. The boat show and waterfront during daylight hours is family-friendly and worth seeing with kids — the boats alone are worth the trip. The evening street party on McCulloch skews adult. Use your judgment based on your kids’ ages. The lake itself during the run is not family-swimming water — boat wakes, speed, and traffic make it an observation-only event from shore.

Can I buy a boat at Desert Storm?

Yes — through us. The Boat Brokers carries consignment inventory all season, and Desert Storm week is peak activity. Buyers who arrive for the event often purchase the same week after seeing boats on the water. Contact us before you come so we can line up units that match what you’re looking for.
