Hire a Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) or National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) certified marine surveyor. They will visually inspect the hull, deck, engine, electrical system, safety equipment, and running gear. The inspection includes a sea trial where possible. Cost is typically $15-$25 per foot of boat length. Always inspect before you sign any purchase agreement or hand over a deposit.
