What We Hear Every Week

The Real Reasons Car Sellers Call Us

📈

“Every dealer low-balled me 40-50% of Hagerty”

Dealers start low because any counter looks better by comparison. The bid-to-retail spread on collector cars can be enormous. Consignment puts the full retail price to work for you — instead of letting a dealer pocket the difference.

🔐

“Craigslist was a scam parade”

Classic cars attract disproportionate scam volume because of the high dollar values. Fake cashier’s checks, wire fraud, and overpayment scams are running constantly in the collector car market. We verify buyers and handle the transaction. You never meet a stranger in your garage with a $70,000 car between you.

🌟

“Bring a Trailer’s comments killed my sale”

BaT’s community can add credibility or destroy a car’s perceived value in 48 hours — and you have no control over the comment section. No reserve at Barrett-Jackson is a gamble. Local consignment means no platform volatility, no auction-house commission, no shipping costs both ways if it doesn’t sell.

🏠

“I inherited it and don’t know what to do”

Estate sellers are the most likely to take the first offer and regret it for years. We pull real comps — Hagerty, Bring a Trailer sold results, Mecum hammer prices — before you price anything. If the car is rare or documented, we help you tell that story in a way that buyers pay for.

📄

“Arizona title transfer is confusing with an out-of-state title”

Many of our Top Lot consignors are seasonal residents with California, Nevada, or Oregon titles. Out-of-state title transfer through Arizona MVD is routine for us. Salvage, rebuilt, and bonded titles each have their own path — we walk through it at intake so there are no surprises at closing.

“I’ve been trying to sell for over a year”

A stale listing is a pricing or exposure problem — usually both. A car that hasn’t sold in 12 months has trained every buyer in the market to think something is wrong with it. We reset the listing, price it from current data, and put it in front of the Havasu collector community that doesn’t live on the national platforms.

Selling Your Vehicle

10 Questions Every Car Seller Asks

The Top Lot at 1693 Industrial Boulevard is our dedicated automotive consignment lot, just down the street from our Main Showroom. You bring the vehicle in, we walk it together, agree on a selling price, sign a consignment agreement, and we display it on a high-visibility lot in a town where collector-car traffic runs year-round. We photograph it, list it on the channels that move classic and collector vehicles, handle all buyer inquiries and showings, manage the test drives, and close the sale with full paperwork and payment handling. Same family, same 40+ year track record, same on-time payment every time — applied to cars instead of boats.
Classic American muscle, vintage trucks, restored project cars, collector European, hot rods, rat rods, resto-mods, late-model performance cars, low-mileage clean daily drivers, and autos of all types — if it’s cool and has an engine, we’re interested. We’re selective: the Top Lot’s reputation is built on the quality of what’s parked there. If your vehicle is something we think will move, we’ll tell you. If it’s better suited to a different channel, we’ll tell you that too. All consignments require a clear title or a current payoff statement in the consignor’s name at day of drop-off.
Classic-car pricing is more art than science, but we anchor it in real data — recent sold-comps from Bring a Trailer, Hagerty valuation data, Mecum and Barrett-Jackson hammer prices for comparable vehicles, and what the Havasu collector market actually pays for the category. Condition grade, originality, documentation, restoration quality, mileage, and provenance all move the number meaningfully. We walk you through the comps we used and the reasoning; you set the asking price with our recommendation in front of you. Collector cars often need a bit more patience than late-model vehicles to find the right buyer, and we price with that in mind.
Yes, regularly. Many of our Top Lot consignors are seasonal Havasu residents whose vehicles are titled in California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, or further out. Out-of-state title transfer is routine — we work through Arizona MVD requirements with the buyer, manage the necessary paperwork, and ensure the title transfers cleanly at closing regardless of where it originated. Salvage, rebuilt, and bonded titles each have their own process; bring us the paperwork up front and we’ll tell you exactly what’s involved before the car goes on the lot. Note: certain title situations may require independent legal or title-company assistance, which we can help you coordinate.
Running and driving, mechanically honest, cosmetically presentable, and accurately represented to buyers. Project cars are welcome if they’re priced as project cars — we don’t pretend a barn find is a driver, and buyers appreciate that. We do not accept vehicles with undisclosed active safety defects. The Top Lot’s value to consignors is that the cars there are credible; the value to buyers is the same. If your vehicle needs minor recommissioning before listing, we can typically point you to a shop in town.
Our standard consignment window is 90 days, same as our boat program. Late-model clean drivers and in-demand classics often move well inside that window; rarer or more category-specific collector vehicles can take longer to find the right buyer, and we plan around that with you up front. Havasu’s collector-car community is active year-round but peaks in the cooler months when classic-car owners are driving and shopping. If a listing is stalling, we have the price-adjustment conversation honestly rather than letting it sit.
For consigned vehicles on the lot, the answer is generally no — once it’s listed, it stays on the lot and ready to show, because the worst outcome for a sale is a buyer driving down to see a car that isn’t there. If you have a specific event — a club show, a seasonal drive — bring it up when we sign the consignment agreement and we’ll work out the specifics. These situations are handled case by case.
On-time payment, every time — same standard we’ve held for more than 40 years. Typically within 10 days from the buyer’s lender funding and us receiving our funds; cash deals often settle faster. Once the buyer’s funds clear and the title work is complete, we cut your check. If there’s a lien on the vehicle, we coordinate the payoff with your lender first and the balance comes to you. You’ll know the closing timeline before you sign, and we don’t move the goalposts. Government fees — registration, applicable taxes — are the buyer’s responsibility.
Our primary model is consignment, which generally puts more money in your pocket because you’re not selling at wholesale to a buyer who needs to build a margin on the resale. That said, we will occasionally make outright offers on the right vehicle when it makes sense for both sides — typically when the consignor needs speed over maximum price. If you want to know what an outright offer looks like for your specific vehicle, ask, and we’ll give you a real number alongside the consignment recommendation so you can compare them side by side.
National auctions like Mecum and Barrett-Jackson are excellent for high-end, well-documented, broadly desirable vehicles where the auction premium clears the seller fees, transport costs, and the time-to-event. Online platforms like Bring a Trailer work for vehicles with strong photography, a tight story, and a seller who wants to manage messages and shipping themselves. Local consignment with us works for everything else — and for a lot of vehicles, the math actually favors local. You don’t pay a buyer’s premium, a seller’s premium, transport fees both ways if it doesn’t sell, or auction-house commission. You don’t field 200 messages from non-buyers. You bring it to a lot ten minutes from your house in Havasu, and we sell it to a buyer who can drive it home. For the right vehicle, that’s a faster closing and a cleaner net check.

Lake Havasu City Collector Car Market

Why the Top Lot Works in Havasu

Lake Havasu City has a year-round collector-car culture that most people outside Arizona don’t appreciate until they visit. The dry desert climate is ideal for preservation — no rust, no salt air, no humidity. Snowbird residents from California, Nevada, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest bring their vehicles to Havasu seasonally and often sell here rather than transporting back north. That creates a consistent stream of motivated buyers who are already in town and already looking.

Havasu is also within reasonable driving distance of Scottsdale’s collector-car week in January, which concentrates the Southwest’s most serious collector-car buyers in the region each year. Many buyers who attend auctions also shop local lots during the same trip. The Top Lot captures those buyers without the auction-house fees.

For sellers with out-of-state titles — California pink slips, Nevada titles, Oregon, Washington — Arizona MVD title transfer is well-documented and we handle it routinely. The requirement is that all consignments arrive with a clear title or a current payoff statement in the consignor’s name. We don’t list vehicles with title clouds; that protects every buyer and every seller on the lot.

The Top Lot is a fully licensed Arizona motor vehicle dealer operation, part of The Boat Broker’s 40+ year Havasu footprint. Same family, same lot standards, same promise that’s backed every transaction we’ve done since 1986.
