Boat Financing

What is the minimum down payment for a boat loan?

The lender sets the minimum down payment, and it varies with the lender, the boat’s age and price, and your credit profile. All else equal, more down reduces the amount financed, which can lower the monthly payment and the total interest; the actual APR, term and fees decide the result, and a larger down payment may improve the terms a lender offers. On older boats, high-performance boats and units over $150,000, which go through equity lenders, expect a meaningful down payment; that’s the nature of equity lending.

We don’t quote down-payment percentages on a web page, because the lender decides after reviewing your application. Start the credit application and our finance team will tell you what the lenders that fit your boat are asking for. Every loan is on approved credit and subject to lender approval.
