Buying a Used Boat

What should I look for when buying a used boat?

When inspecting a used boat, check for: gelcoat cracks or spider webbing on the hull (signs of impact or stress), soft spots in the deck (wet core rot), water stains in the bilge, engine hours relative to age, oil condition, trailer condition and wheel bearings, all electronics and lights functional, upholstery condition, and that the HIN (hull ID number) matches the title. A pre-purchase survey by a certified marine technician is worth every dollar.
