Buying a Used Boat

How do I know if a boat has been in an accident?

Signs of prior accident damage include: mismatched gelcoat color or texture in repaired areas, non-factory drill holes or hardware locations, structural cracks radiating from a point of impact, uneven deck gaps, and replacement components that do not match the rest of the boat. A certified marine surveyor can identify repairs that cosmetically look fine but hide structural compromise. Run a title check through your state marine authority to check for prior insurance claims.
