Is it better to buy a boat from a dealer or private seller?

Dealers offer more protections — title clarity, some warranty coverage, financing options, and recourse if problems emerge. Private sellers often offer lower prices but you accept more risk: no warranty, title complications are your problem, and sellers are not required to disclose all known defects. For a first-time buyer or a boat over $25,000, a dealer purchase is generally the safer path. Experienced buyers comfortable doing their own due diligence often find better values in private sales.
