Pontoon Boat Buying Guide: Cost, Tritoon vs. Pontoon, and What to Ask

Pontoon boats are the most versatile boats on Lake Havasu. One platform handles a family day on the water, a quiet morning fishing a cove, and an afternoon pulling tubes. Arizona’s freshwater lakes suit them well: no salt corrosion, sunshine most of the year, and wide-open water that rewards a stable, roomy ride.

This guide covers what actually drives the cost of a pontoon, how a pontoon differs from a tritoon, how to pick the right size for Arizona lakes, and what to ask before you buy. When you’re ready, the pontoons on our lot right now are listed with live prices.

How Much Does a Pontoon Boat Cost?

There’s no single answer, because five things move the price more than the brand name does:

Length and deck layout. Pontoons run from about 16 feet to over 28 feet. More deck means more seating, more storage and more room to move, and a higher price. Most Havasu families land in the 22- to 25-foot range.

Pontoon vs. tritoon. A standard pontoon rides on two aluminum tubes. A tritoon adds a third center tube, which raises stability, weight capacity and top speed, and lets the boat carry a bigger engine. On open water like Havasu, a tritoon handles the afternoon chop noticeably better than a two-tube boat.

Engine. Outboards range from around 60 hp on small fishing pontoons to 300 hp and up, with twin engines on performance tritoons. More horsepower means quicker holeshot for towing and a higher cruise, with more fuel burned and a higher sticker.

Features. A base pontoon comes with bench seating, a stereo and a bimini top. From there: hydraulic steering, upgraded vinyl, LED and underwater lighting, livewells, ski tow bars or a tower, a changing room, a wet bar.

New or pre-owned. A pre-owned pontoon in good shape saves real money over new, and Arizona pre-owned boats tend to be in better condition than boats that spent years in salt water or hard winters. Every used boat on our lot has been mechanically inspected. We don’t list a unit we wouldn’t sell to a friend.

We price every unit individually on condition, equipment and the current market, and the price is on the listing. Browse the pontoons in stock to see where the market actually sits today.

New Pontoons: Barletta and Bentley

The Boat Brokers is the only authorized dealer in Havasu for Barletta and Bentley, so if you’re comparing new pontoons, you can see both lines on one lot.

Barletta is the premium build. Owned by Winnebago Industries, Barletta uses a welded aluminum frame and a composite deck instead of the riveted frames and wood decks common elsewhere, a build that holds up over years of use. The line runs from the Cabrio (entry) through the C-Class and L-Class to the Reserve, a yacht-tier pontoon. See the Barletta lineup.

Bentley Pontoons is the value build: made in the USA, standard Mercury outboard power, and a price point that lets a working family get into a new boat with financing they can carry. The series run LE, Legacy, Fish, Bolt and Elite. See the Bentley lineup.

We also carry pre-owned pontoons from every major builder as they come in on consignment: Bennington, Harris, Sun Tracker, Sylvan, Godfrey, Crest, Manitou and more. Stock turns over constantly, so if you don’t see the one you want today, ask a broker to watch for it.

Picking the Right Pontoon for Arizona Lakes

Which lake. Havasu, Lake Pleasant, Roosevelt and Mohave all get open-water chop; a tritoon with 150 hp or more is the comfortable choice there. Smaller lakes like Saguaro, Canyon and Bartlett are fine with a standard pontoon and a modest engine.

Who’s aboard. The capacity plate lists both a maximum number of people and a maximum weight, and you have to stay under both. A family of four with coolers, gear and a dog doesn’t need a 14-person boat, but they’ll like the room.

Water sports. For tubing at speed, wakeboarding or skiing, you want a tritoon rated for 200 hp or more with a factory tow bar or tower. A two-tube pontoon will pull a tube at lower speeds.

Desert sun. Look for UV-resistant vinyl, marine-grade carpet or composite decking, and a cover that fits. Covered storage pays for itself in upholstery alone.

What to Ask Before You Buy

  • Is this a pontoon or a tritoon, and what’s the rated horsepower range?
  • What’s the total out-the-door number with tax, fees and registration?
  • What warranty applies: manufacturer, extended, or as-is?
  • Can I get financing started before I commit?
  • Is the trailer included? (At The Boat Brokers, every unit we sell includes a trailer.)
  • Can I see it run? We arrange on-water demos on Lake Havasu as part of the purchase process.
