Tubing behind a pontoon is very common and works great — the wide beam creates a great wake for tubers. Wakeboarding and wake surfing behind a standard pontoon is possible but not ideal: the wake is relatively small and flat compared to a dedicated wake boat, and acceleration is slower. A performance tritoon with 200+ HP generates a better wake, but serious wakeboarders typically prefer a dedicated inboard wake boat.
